It's official. As hinted on our social media channels, Coach Prime himself confirmed the exciting news: former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Domata Peko is joining the coaching staff at the Colorado Buffaloes as a new defensive line coach.
Peko was spotted at practices in Boulder, fuelling speculation. Coach Prime then let the addition out of the bag in a comment on an Island City post. Peko will fill the defensive line coaching vacancy left by Damione Lewis's departure for the Miami Hurricanes.
Peko brings a wealth of experience to the Buffaloes. After a stellar 15-year NFL career, including a notable stint with the Cincinnati Bengals, he transitioned to coaching. He spent the 2024 season with the Dallas Cowboys, gaining valuable experience at the professional level. That background, coupled with his extensive playing career, will be a valuable asset to the team, giving players firsthand knowledge of what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Peko also has a prior relationship with Colorado's defensive coordinator, Robert Livingston. They worked together with the Bengals, building a professional rapport. That pre-existing connection should ensure a smooth integration into the Buffaloes' coaching structure.
From the NFL trenches to the college sidelines, Peko is ready to bring his signature grit, power and island energy to Colorado. Buff fans can look forward to seeing the impact of his experience on the defensive line, and his presence will be a valuable recruiting tool, attracting talented defensive linemen to Boulder. He understands the game at an elite level and can communicate that knowledge to young players.
