Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2 just made history with the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time, racking up a jaw-dropping 46.7 million views in its first three days. And yes, it's exactly as chaotic, hilarious, and star-studded as you'd expect.
While Adam Sandler returns in all his glory and the film features more celebrity cameos than a championship parade, we couldn't help but beam with pride when we saw Tony Finau grace the screen. Among all the Hollywood heavy-hitters and comedic legends, there he was… Tony, doing what he does best: showing up, showing out, and representing.
For those who don't know, Tony Finau is a professional golfer of Tongan and Samoan descent. He's one of the few Polynesians to break through in the world of pro golf. Known for his calm demeanor, powerful swing, and deep sense of faith and family, Tony has become a fan favorite on the PGA Tour. He's earned multiple tour wins, played in Ryder Cups, and built a reputation not just for his athletic talent, but for his humility and heart.
To see a proud Polynesian face in a film like this one and one that's smashing records is a moment. We love to see it. A little cameo, a big flex, and a major win for representation.
Now excuse us while we rewatch it one more time, just to cheer when Tony walks on screen.
